Halloween

Once upon a time there was a man and a women of poor means. They lived in a grey clapboard house by a sea, by a sidewalk, by a field, by a farm, by a forest. They had two children, a son and a daughter.

The family lived close together for many years, and knew each other well till one day, when the son was eaten by wolves and the daughter drowned in the sea.

From habit the man and the woman continued to live in a grey clapboard house, but the force of their tragedy drove them into their own selves, and they lived out their days by a sea, by the forest, by the field seemingly together, yet each in his private world, knowing life’s bitterness- close and alone
